LGBTQ+ Women’s Sports Event 2022 - Highlights and Imagery

On June 11th 2022 80 women and non binary folk from the LGBTQ+ community came together for what turned out to be a spectacular event. Read more below on how the event came about, why it’s important to provide these spaces and to view imagery from the day.

Sporting Pride and Dublin Lesbian Line are two organsations both working towards a similar goal through different means - to promote better health in our community and provide opportunities to make connections in safe spaces. It is for this reason we came together to create a sports event specifically for women and non binary people in the LGBTQ+ community. Many of months of planning went into the event and we are absolutely delighted with the positive outcomes of what we hope will be an annual highlight in the Pride calendar.

Sport can be used as a tool for positive change. It encourages both social interaction and physical activity, especially when engaging in team sports. Coming out of covid has been difficult for many and it is important for LGBTQ+ community groups to provide safe, healthy spaces that promote better health and encourage people to come together with their peers. All of the sports clubs who engaged in this event are super supportive of our community and provide such opportunities - Phoenix Tigers, Emerald Warriors and Gravity Frisbee ⧉ .

“I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was an incredibly fun event in terms of trying out all 3 sports, everyone was friendly and approachable. I'd go again”
