Back Up and Running in Dublin

How have the Dublin Frontrunners prepared themselves to meet safety guidelines while training during Covid?

Several Committee Meetings were held, a Covid 19 Safety Officer was appointed, and all Committee Members are Covid Co-ordinators. A detailed risk analysis was completed and a comprehensive Plan for Phased Return to Club Activities was prepared and circulated to all Members. Implementation has been successful, and the Plan is kept under ongoing review in the light of experience. A copy of the Plan was sent to all Club members.

What plans do the Dublin Frontrunners have for the future?

Getting safely through current Covid Crisis is our top priority for now.  The Back Up and Running initiative is supporting recruitment of new members (see below) - we are at almost 250 paid up members at the moment! It and C25K programmes will continue into the future. We aim to restore our flagship annual Pride Run, a trip abroad and lots of social events in 2021 i.e. get back to normal, depending on the Covid-19 situation in 2021!

How has the club / training helped you over the last few months?

Club events/training have been very important to the physical, and indeed, mental health of our members since we commenced a phased return to activity on June 10th.

What advice do you have for anyone thinking about taking up running to get fit?

Join a C25K programme or a Back Up and Running (BUR) initiative such as DFR have recently initiated.  On Saturday 8th August we started our Back Up and Running (BUR) sessions along with our regular DFR runs. This series of sessions is to get people Back Up and Running again. It’s a 6-week beginner program that will get you up to 30 minutes of running. Each session will start with a warm up, about half an hour of running/walking and ends with stretches. A week will start on Saturday with a program that you can repeat the whole week. On Monday we will have interval sessions together and on Wednesdays we run the program again all together.  The runs will be facilitated by three of our Committee Members.  With the recent COVID19 restrictions. This Saturday, 22nd August, there will be two runs, one at 9.30 am and the other at 10.00am. Max runners aloud will be 15. The BUR will have a separate group also. Check the BUR event on our Meetup group for the details (times and meeting points)..also for useful information about DFR.
