LGBTQ+ Women’s Summer Sport Day 2023

Sporting Pride and Dublin Lesbian Line are delighted to introduce our second LGBTQ+ women’s sports event as part of the Dublin Pride 2023 celebrations!

Women of all ability levels, from beginner to seasoned athlete, are invited to join us for what promises to be a day of fun and socialising with your peers in the LGBTQ+ community.

When: Saturday, June 17th 2023

Where: Railway Union Sports Club, Park Avenue, Sandymount, Dublin 4, D04 PF86

Day Breakdown:

  • Registration open: 11.45am - 12.20pm (Clubhouse function room)

  • Sports Activities: 12.30 - 3.30pm

  • Food, drinks and socialising: 3.30pm onwards!

Volunteers will be present on the day to support and guide you as needed.

Parking is very limited so it is advised that you arrive using public transport. A cricket tournament is also taking place on the same day so it will be busy!


Event Structure

All of the sports below are taster sessions - you do not need to have any previous experience in the sports to take part. The sports are listed as running for one hour each but there will be breaks between each activity.

  • 11.45am-12.20pm : Registration

  • 12.30 - 1.30pm : Introduction to Hockey with The Pink Ladies hockey club, supported by Hockey Ireland - all participants

  • 1.30 - 2.30pm : The group will split in half, with one group playing Softball with The Stoneballerz, and the other group playing Gaelic Football with Na Gaeil Aeracha

  • 2.30 - 3.30pm : The groups will swap over to the alternate sport - softballers to gaelic football and vice versa.

  • 3.30pm - onwards : Burgers and drinks at the Club House!

Registration Costs : €8 + registration fee

The cost to register is €8 per person + the Eventbrite registration fee. This includes participation in all the activities, a burger & chips, and a technical t-shirt. You also have the option to donate to Dublin Lesbian Line during the registration process if you choose to do so.

Please note:

  • if you do not show up on the day we cannot give your t-shirt to someone else - t-shirts are for participants only.

  • The orders for food and tshirts will be placed on June 5th. After this date we will not be ableto make any changes to orders.

What to Wear

  • Please wear comfortable sports clothing. For hockey, a free mouthguard will be provided (courtesy of the NEIC Initiative), as well as hockey sticks and shin guards (on loan from Hockey Ireland). Na Gaeil Aeracha and the Stoneballerz Softball team will also provide the sports equipment needed.

  • The hockey will take place on a hockey pitch so you cannot wear studded boots - Astro turf runners are preferable but any kind of runners will do.

  • Gaelic Football will take place on a grass pitch so feel free to wear studded boots for those activities if you have them.

  • For Softball, regular runners are fine, as are trail runners or football boots for softball - but no metal cleats

General FAQ

  • Showers are available on site if you wish to use them afterwards but they are open showers, not individual cubicles.

  • You can leave your bag in the function room during activities - a volunteer will be on site and staying in the room with the bags. However, cannot take responsibility for any valuables so please take them with you or leave them at home where possible.

  • Once the sports activities end at 3.30pm we will no longer have a volunteer in that role.

Food & Refreshments

Feed Catering will be serving up food from 3.30pm. The registration fee includes a burger and chips. The food will be cooked during the sports and most should be ready for collection when you finish around 3.30pm. During the registration process you will be asked to choose one option from the following list:

  1. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich

    Sesame dredged free range Chicken fillet, House Pickles, shredded Lettuce, Beef Tomato, Ranch Dressing

  2. Beef and Pancetta Cheese Burger

    100% Irish Beef Patty, American Cheese, smoked Pancetta, crispy Shallots, Tomato Ketchup; American Mustard

  3. Falafel Burger (Vegan if you choose ‘Vegan Sauce’)

    Homemade falafel Patty, roasted red pepper humus.Beef tomato, shredded lettuce, house pickles and garlic drizzle

During the registration process you can also inform us if you are Coeliac so we can ensure a food option is available for you on the day. Please note - the chicken burger is not coeliac adaptable.

You will not be able to change your order on the day as all of the food is pre-ordered.

We ask that all participants bring their own bottled water. The clubhouse bar will be open for anyone who wants to buy a drink on site.

T-Shirts

The registration fee also includes a technical tshirt for each participant, ordered via Run Logic. You are asked to select your preferred size when registering. You will not be able to change the t-shirt size on the day as all of the t-shirts are pre ordered.

Photographer On Site

The wonderful Debbie Hickey from Studio Ten Photography will be covering this event and will be on site throughout the day. If you do not want to be included in photographs please approach the photographer to make your wishes known beforehand.

Paramedics

Two paramedics will be on site. Please don’t hesitate to approach the paramedics or a volunteer if you are in need of any support.
